1974: 'Komusō' & 'Suizen'?: The Emperor's New Clothes!
    PART 1
What Prof. Kamisangō Yūkō Once Precisely Told Us
about Supposed "Edo Period 'Komusō Suizen' Life"

This is yet a new subject of revealing information illuminating still ongoing, widely spreading history fabrication and falsification:

How Prof. Kamisangō Yūkō, 1935-2018, was so much mistaken back then, now half a century ago - and how the rest of the Shakuhachi World has been misled and lied to - ever since then.

HERE FOLLOWS PART 1 of This New INQUIRY:

吹禅の理解のために - SUIZEN no RIKAI no TAME ni

"Towards an Understanding of [the Term] 'Sui-Zen'"

xxx

On page 9 in the very comprehensive publication (record descriptive notes) that accompanies Nippon Columbia's 1974 triple LP collection titled 'Suizen' - Nippon Columbia KX-7001-3 - renowned Japanese musicologist Kamisangō Yūkō, 1935-2018, explains 'Suizen' like this in his foreword, following a short general, un-problematic introduction (Par. 1):

Par. 2-3:

"What is Suizen?

To put it simply, 'Suizen' is meditation [zentei]] performed by blowing the shakuhachi
[in order to experience enlightenment]."

Par. 4:

"The term corresponds to 'zazen', which involves sitting in a cross-legged position and reaching a meditative state, and is also called 'sui-chiku-zen' ["blow-bamboo-meditation"] and 'sui-shō-zen' ["blow-flute-meditation"]."

Par. 5:

"'Chiku/take' ["bamboo"] refers to the shakuhachi, as 'shō' ["flute"] refers to the similar Chinese instrument 'dong-xiao/tung-hsiao' [Jap: 'dōshō], a pun on the Chinese name for shakuhachi."

Par. 6:

"This idea of 'Suizen' was born from the Fuke sect, a branch of the Zen Sect."

Par. 7:

"The Fuke sect is a very special sect that was established in early modern Japan,
and its monks are [the] Komusō."

Par. 8:

"In other words, 'Suizen' was a type of Zen unique to [the] Komusō."

Par. 9:

"The music that has been handed down as a result of the Way of 'Suizen' are the "Fuke Shakuhachi Classical Pieces" ('Fuke Shakuhachi Koten Honkyoku')."

Par. 10:

"The task of this paper is to outline the history of shakuhachi music in order to understand the music of 'Suizen'."

This is the question, though;
Where is the solid documentary evidence: Original Edo Period texts, that prove Prof. Kamisangō's above quoted statements?

The truth is, of course: Now half a century later, any such sources of literary proof are still alarmingly non-existent - and will forever so be!
