No Other Musical Instruments History Has Ever Been More Falsified
and Misrepresented Than That of the 'Shakuhachi' Flute Family's!
First and Foremost: Nothing About 'Shakuhachi' in China and Japan Is "Ancient"!
L: Oldest known reference to a Chinese 'shakuhachi', Chin.: Ch'ǐ-pā/Qǐ-bā.
Reference: Lü Ts'ai, early T'ang Dynasty Imperial Court music master.
R: Oldest preserved Japanese 'shakuhachi' owned by the Hōryū Temple, Nara.

First of All: No East Asian horizontally held 'Shakuhachi' type edgeblown flute can be called "ancient", period!
EXAMPLES of SUCH MISLEADING and DISINFORMATION:

Facebook "Suizen" group c/o Jin Soku-shin, Admin, USA:

Just another way of being present in the moment."

NOW, let's rather be completely concrete about all those nonsensical claims of 'Shakuhachi' "ancestry":
Here is the widely respected definition of "ancient":
Although the definition of "ancient" varies considerably depending on academic discipline, context, and even country or region,
the definition observed on the present website is the following:
Here's the definition according to Wikipedia - anything "ancient" ends before the year 500 CE,
in 476 CE, in fact, with the fall of the Roman Empire in Southern Europe:
"Ancient history is a time period from the beginning of writing and recorded human history through late antiquity.
The span of recorded history is roughly 5.000 years, beginning with the development of Sumerian cuneiform script.
Ancient history covers all continents inhabited by humans in the period 3000 BC – AD 500,
ending with the expansion of Islam in late antiquity."

In other words: As we have no record at all about 'Shakuhachi' before the 7th century, at the earliest, there is absolutely nothing 'Shakuhachi' in Japan
that can be described as "ancient". Neither can the Edo Period, period!
Do US Americans possibly believe that anything older than "The Declaration of Independence" of July 4, 1776,
per definition must be indeed: "ancient"?
That's certainly how it appears to be ... :-)
Anyhow, whatever you may think, this very web place abounds in other examples of 'Shakuhachi' history falsification and fabrication from the earliest of 'Shakuhachi' times.
Just take your time - enjoy reading and improving your 'Shakuhachi' history and ideology knowledge resource! :-)
