• Had it not been for centuries of Western Global Imperialism,
the Christian Catholic ideological invasion in Japan
beginning in 1549, and the Tokugawa governmental policies that led
to the extinction of (virtually) all Christian converts in early to mid-17th century Japan,
THERE WOULD:
- never have been a single 'Komusō', so widely, so really wrongly named "Emptiness Monk" ... ?
- no thick root-end 'Madake Shakuhachi',
- no 'Hō-ki', "Buddhist Instrument",
- not a single Pseudo-Buddhistic 'Honkyoku' recital or sermon,
- no face-hiding 'Tengai' "anonymizing" braided wicker hats,
- no 'Ichi-on jōbutsu' promise of "Buddhist enlightenment",
- no 'Takuhatsu sui-teki shugyō' unemployed samurai beggar roamings,
- no Shinchi Kakushin, so-called (alleged) "transmitter" of any Chinese 'Shakuhachi' flute
and an alleged 400 years old invented 'Kyorei' tune to Japan in 1254,
- no invented "Four Chinese Buddhist Laymen" who "accompanied Kakushin on his return to his homeland",
- no invented 'Kichiku', alleged first native 'Kyotaku' flute student,
- no invented 'Mukaiji', nor 'Kokū' bamboo flute "classics",
- no invented 'Kyochiku Ryōen Zenji' (first introduced in 1735!),
- no Kyōto Myōan Temple Old nor New 'Fuke Shakuhachi' Spiritual Centers,
- no numerous different and competing "schools" of ascetic 'Shakuhachi' practices,
- no such many fabricated ancestor and patriarch "family trees",
- never any "Big 'Suizen' Lie" after 1974 ...
in that otherwise so deeply fascinating "Land of the Rising Sun": Japan.
Not least: No Misled, Misinformed Post-WW2 "Shakuhachi Meditation Cults" -
... neither inside, nor outside of Japan!
